It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Hartwell Whatley (Montevallo, Alabama), born in Delta, Ohio, who passed away on September 27, 2023, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Simeon Lee Whatley and Nellie Warner Whatley; and his great grandchild Rhett Christopher Foreman. He is survived by: his wife Gail Ledbetter Whatley; his children, James Whatley, Jr. (Donna) and Jill Whatley Bishop (Clay); his grandsons, René Whatley Foreman (Blaine), Bradford Whatley Bishop, James Whatley III (Brittany), Reid Clayton Bishop and Connor Lee Whatley (Mary Grace); his great grandchildren, Lily Katherine Elizabeth Foreman, Shepard James Foreman and Emma Claire Elaine Foreman; his brother-in-law Roy Wayne Ledbetter, Sr.; and his siblings, Samuel Lynwood Whatley (Sandy), Reggie Simeon Whatley (Beverly) and Jane Whatley Wingo. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse or The Wounded Warrior Project.
