He was predeceased by: his parents, William Merritt and Leonora Merritt; his brother Bill Merritt; and his siblings-in-law, Maire Merritt and Frank Fox.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his sisters, Joan Fox and Diane Haddock (Andy); his children, William Merritt (Theresa), Tara Burgess and Beth Watson (Rob); his grandchildren, Sara Burgess Layton (Noah), Parker Burgess, Anna Watson, Claire Watson and William Merritt; and his great grandchild Amelia Layton.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (1400 Joyce Rd, Mobile, AL 36618).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Wayne's name to any of the following: Pensacola Catholic High School, McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, Holy Family Catholic Church in Mobile, AL, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
