Paul Joseph Bergman Obituary
It is with great sorrow to announce that Paul J Bergman (70) passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Mobile Infirmary after a brief illness.
Paul was born in 1954 in Albany, New York. He graduated from Albany High School in 1972 and was nominated by Congressman Samuel Stratton to The United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) for his Engineering Degree. Upon graduation from USMMA, Kings Point, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Commander JG. Paul also obtained master’s degrees in Engineering, Fire Science and Masters of Business Administration.
He then went to work at (the now) Ingalls Shipbuilding HII in Pascagoula, MS, before retiring in June 2024. He was also a Senior Tax Analyst at H & R Block for over 25 years.
Paul generously gave of his time over the years. He volunteered his time at numerous charitable organizations, including the Saenger Theatre, Mobile Symphony Orchestra, the Joe Jefferson Playhouse, RSVP, Prodisee Pantry, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America and Spring Hill Avenue Temple. He also donated his blood and time to the American Red Cross.
Paul was an avid runner. He ran track in high school and completed over 70 marathons, including the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon. He also completed numerous 5Ks and 10Ks.
Paul loved to bake, especially bread, and hoped to own his own family bakery one day.
Highly involved in the Boy Scouts of America, he was the youngest scout to obtain Eagle Scout (with all his Eagle Palms) and the Order of the Arrow. He was inscribed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, graduating Third (3rd) in his class from USMMA.
Paul is survived by his wife Judith A (Sandifer), daughters Ashley Robyn and Katlin Alaina Bergman and sisters Nancy (Gregory) Bergman-Artman and Carol (Charles) Turner. He was preceded in death by Gail Bergman (sister) Anne and Stanley Bergman (parents) and Arnold Heart (Uncle).
In Lieu of flower contributions/donations can be made to The American Red Cross or Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort Alabama.
Services will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being made by Radney Funeral Home – Mobile.
