He was predeceased by: his parents, Lemuel Clarence and Velma Tate; his wife Diane Tate; his son Keith McIlwain; his siblings, Lemuel Tate, William Tate, Darvin Tate, Ethelene Perry and Vernice Hopkins; and his grandson Cole Sikes.
He is survived by: his children, Brittani Sikes (K. J.) of Millry, AL and Eric Copeland (Jennifer) of Silas, AL; and his grandchildren, Addisyn Sikes, Cooper Sikes, Peyton Sikes, Garrett McIlwain (Tara), Sawyer McIlwain (Taylor), Bree Phillips (Matt) and Faith Copeland. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
