He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bethel and Bernice Idell Pointer (Cooper); his daughter Autumn Rae Pointer; and his siblings, James "Jimmy" B. Pointer, Jr., Larry Michael Pointer and Mary Charlotte Tucker (Pointer).

He is survived by: his son Drew Tyler Pointer; his sisters, Kathy Collins (David) and Rhona Price (David); and his former spouse Kym Hurst. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“We met Tommy & Kim at Trinity Baptist Bible College in Florida.. After 4 years went in separate directions & later Tommy & Kim were blessed with Drew & Autumn. The years have passed & we lost contact. In Jan 2020 we went online & read where Autumn had died. & found out Tommy & Kim had divorced. We tried locating them & no success. We went online again tonight & are saddened by the death of Tommy. We send our deepest love & condolences to all the family, especially Kim & Drew.”
