We are sad to announce that on December 13, 2023, at the age of 76, John Douglas Pennington of Meridianville, Alabama, born in Panama City, Florida passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hulon Pennington (Red) and Mary Fay Ketner; and his brother Dennis Gordon Pennington. He is survived by: his wife Sandra J. Pennington; his daughters, Yvonne Tafoya (Charles), Lonnie Holder and Lea Rastetter; his grandson Charles Tafoya II (Presley); his great grandchild Naomi Tafoya; and his sisters, Mary Oliver (Pug) and Drinda Pennington. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and cousins along with a large number of friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vietnam Veterans Association or Marines Toys for Tots as well as the local charity of the 8th Street Community.

“There isn't enough space here for me to leave a message that accurately conveys how much Doug meant to me and how saddened I am that I didn't spend more time with him in recent years. Doug befriended me when I was around 15 years old and he was around 35 years old. We remained friends to the end. That is so understated but it will suffice. Sandy knows the affection I had for my friend Doug. To Sandy and the rest of the family, I'm saddened for you because of your loss. Jim (Jimmy) Stutts”
