He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmie Carter and Joseph Iron Carter. He is survived by: his wife Marie W Carter; his daughters, Kathryn C Fowler (Bill), Karen C Quinn (Steven) and Kellie Carter-Stallings (James); his siblings, Mary Luallen (Edwin), Jerry Carter (Linda) and Annette Fagan (Gary); his grandchildren, Deneil Q Kamm (Michael Kamm), Brandi R Quinn, Michael C Fowler (Nicole) and Anna V Fowler (Brooke Fowler); and his great grandchildren, Gabriel Neal, Evelyn Fowler and Emma Fowler.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Birmingham-Southern College.
