He was predeceased by: his parents, Louree Parker Copeland and Edward Julian Copeland; and his aunt Nancy Collins. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Givens Copeland; his sons, William Todd Copeland (Meg) and Joel Edward Copeland (Julie); his grandchildren, Jaret Copeland of McCalla, Alabama., Will Whitley of McCalla, Alabama., Ramey Copeland of McCalla, Alabama. and Maggie Whitley of McCalla, Alabama.; and his sister DeAnne Copeland Riley (Branton Riley). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education Elementary Library Book Fund (contact 205-342-7340).
