He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Charles and Belva Goff Charles; and his siblings, Pat Ritchie Skaggs, June Ramey and Wayne Ed Charles.
He is survived by: his wife Jennifer Ratliff Charles; his sons, Wesley Charles of Honolulu Hawaii and Jesse Charles of Maylene, Alabama; his brother Jimmy "Buck" Charles (Phyllis) of Bland; his sister-in-law Sandra Charles of Vansant, Virginia; his mother-in-law Grace Addison Ratliff of Oakwood, Virginia; and his siblings-in-law, Sherri Ratliff Dawson of Abingdon, Virginia, Chris Ratliff (Lisa) of Oakwood, Virginia and Charles Ratliff (Veronica) of Oakwood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
