With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Rita Cheryl Lowery of Maylene, Alabama, born in Milton, West Virginia, who passed away on January 15, 2022 at the age of 72. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Woodrow McDonie and Velma Weatherholt McDonie; her husband James "Junior" Lester Lowery, Jr.; her adoptive son James David Lowery; her siblings, Gary McDonie, John McDonie and Rhonda Fisher; and her siblings-in-law, Sandra McDonie, Mary Lou Farmer, Emma Jean Hucklebee, Jane Johnson, Tillie Ann Jones, Bud Fisher, Auburn Farmer, Albert Hucklebee, Homer Johnson and Frank Jones.

She is survived by: her children, James Kevin Lowery of Maylene, AL and Angela Mendoza (Elmer) of Tucker, GA; her grandchildren, Katelyn and Jayden Mendoza; and her siblings, Carolyn Raines (Jim) and Oscar McDonie (Lois). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family encourages guests to follow COVID protocols, and masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the funeral home.
