He was predeceased by: his father George Milton Rainey; and his nephew Jesse Rainey. He is survived by: his mother Emogene Rainey; his son Matthew Rainey (Audra Stewart); his grandson Randall Alexander Rainey; his brothers, Bob Rainey (Celia) and Brian Rainey (Betty Durbin); his aunt Laura Lindsey; his nephews, Kevin Rainey, Jeff Rainey and Austin Rainey; and also Jannette Howell Rainey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First Baptist Church of Gardendale, Alabama.
