He is survived by: his wife Sherry Smart Cates; his mother Shirley Cates; his son Thomas Franklin Cates III (Tyger); his stepchildren, Andrew Roberts (Kourtnie) and Kelly Rhodes; his siblings, Tommy Dale Cates, Donnie Cates and Teresa Carlisle; his granddaughter Host; his father Thomas Franklin Cates, Sr.; and his grandparents, Rufus, Vona Patterson Cates Sam and Bessie Shrader Roberts.
