He was predeceased by: his parents, James H. Burress and Grace Jackson Burress; his wife Sarah Smith Burress; and his brothers, Billy Joe Burress, Donnie Wayne Burress and Tommy Burress.

He is survived by: his children, Timothy Burress and Cindy Burress Dawkins (Art); his grandchildren, Summer Dawkins and Roman Dawkins; and his siblings, James E. Burress (Nancy) and Jeanette Hume (Ronnie).
