He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley Owens and Vada Kervin; and his brother Ollie Joe Owens. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Owens; his children, Meghan Kennedy (Timothy) and Bobby R. Owens (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Brooke Boudreaux (Drew), Conner Owens, Adalynn Kennedy, Allison Kennedy and Wyatt Kennedy; his great grandchildren, Lottie Boudreaux and Baby Boudreaux; and his siblings, Glen Padgett (Mavis), Tommy Kervin (Bev), Jack Kervin (Brenda) and Vonciel Kervin (Howard). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
