He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Thomas and Clara Hargrove Elder; and his brothers, Charles Elder, Jr., Farris "Spike" Elder, Billy Wayne Elder and Larry Elder.
He is survived by: his daughter Dena Elder of Lineville; his granddaughters, Bree Elder of Costa Mesa, CA and Hannah Vinson of Tuscaloosa; and his sister Margaret Anderson of Lineville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and extended family.
