He was predeceased by: his parents, William Needham Smith, Jr. and Thelma McCoy Johnson; his brother Cecil Eugene Smith; and his uncle Claude Pete (Rudene McCoy). He is survived by: his wife Carole Roberts-Smith; his children, Casey Lee (Tim) and Richard Smith, Jr.; his sister Donna Ragsdale (Paul); his brother-in-law Jim Roberts; his niece Nikki Smith Yetter (Chris); his nephews, Brent Everett Shields, Chris Roberts (Melissa), William Roberts (Lauren) and Daniel Roberts; his great-nieces, Hannah and Natalie; his great-nephew Nolan; and his pets, Chloe, Mew, Sissy and Callie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mr. Smith's memory be made to First Baptist Church in Ashland, Alabama.
