He is survived by: his mother Velva Mae Braggs Smith; his wife Judy Askins Smith; his children, Jimmy Dean Smith, Jr., Joshua Smith (Slyvia), Melissa Smith, Jessica Teal (Matthew), Leslie Askins and Crystal Hafner; and his brothers, Roy Smith (Rose), Donny Smith and Elwin Smith. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
