He was predeceased by: his parents, Seymour Bennett and Nell Rose Carpenter; his brother Seymour Ben Carpenter, Jr.; his niece Darlene Carpenter Smith; and his nephew Tyler Smith.

He is survived by: his stepchildren, John Glenn Wilson and Iris Goodrum; and his siblings, Glenn Carpenter (Ruth), Carol Downing and Nell Bernauer (Louis). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandnieces.
