He was predeceased by: his brother Jimmie Dyer; his grandparents, Milton, Hattie Mae James, Armon and Dovie Clanton; and his parents, A. V. Clanton and Pauline James Clanton.

He is survived by: his daughter Heather Sample; his sister Debra Clanton; his grandchildren, Madison, Daniel B. Nick, James, Kaytlen and Lydia; and his great grandchild Morgan.
