He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney Sterling and Cassie Sterling (Harris). He is survived by: his wife Linda (Payne); his sons, Tim, Andrew and Matt; his grandchildren, Harper, Sophia, Greyson, Brenda Lasseter and Sid Lasseter; and his sisters-in-law, Sherry Hill and Carole Payne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
