He was predeceased by: his parents, John Whitfield Long and Emily Winslett Long; his grandparents, Francis Musgrove, Stella Long, Benjamin and Kate Wallace Winslett; his brother John Whitfield Long, Jr.; and his nephew James Gayle "Jamie" Dunlap of Lakemont, Georgia..

He is survived by: his wife Susan Freeman Long; his daughter Brandy Long Hill (Chad); his grandchildren, Breck, Wilkes and Emerson of Jasper, Alabama; his daughter Winslett Long Watson (Justin); his grandchildren, Haddon and Whit of Savannah, Georgia; his sister Stella Kathryn "Kit" Dunlap of Gainesville, Georgia; his nieces, Emily Whitfield "Whitney" Dunlap of Gainesville, Georgia and Carol Kathryn Dunlap of Lakemont; his nephew Samuel; and also, Rachel Rawls Long, Caleb Goodwin and Lynn Gardner Wright.
