She was predeceased by: her parents, Tress Lay and Lola Bell Lay; her husband William P. Thornton; and her siblings, Mavis Allred, Verlene Barton, Hazel Moore, Minnie Gaddy, Cletus Lay, Floyd Lay, Dale Lay and Billy Lay.
She is survived by: her daughters, Brenda Thornton Cates and Janice Thornton Collins; her grandchildren, Suzie Walton (Chris), Sandi Banks Taylor (Danny), Charlie Collins, Jimmy Collins (Amanda), David Spencer Cates (Megan), Carla Mosley (John) and Brannon Cates; her sister Carol Jean Prickett; her niece Patsy Cook; and her friend Darwin Kilgore. She is also survived by Fourteen great grandchildren; A host of nieces and nephews.
