He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvie Upton and Mexie Upton; his wife Linda M. Upton; his siblings, Rosa Cooper (Homer), Gaines Upton and Gary Upton; and his granddaughter Emily Upton.

He is survived by: his children, Chris Upton (Lee), Scott Upton (Michelle) and Theresa Bachstein (James); his grandchildren, Matthew Bachstein (Frances), Kayla Collins (Brent), Anna Caroline Bachstein and Noah Upton; and his great grandchildren, Anna Leigh Collins, Cohen Collins and Nathanael Bachstein. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Eastside Baptist Church, Jasper, Alabama.
