He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Johnson and Mel Johnson; and his siblings, Anita Burns, Charles Johnson, Ralph Johnson and Jimmy Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Isom Johnson; his children, Jackie Isom Johnson and Susan Jeanette Shirley; his son-in-law Donald Edward Shirley; his granddaughter Suzanne Jeanette Shirley; his sister-in-law Annette Isom Ross; and his siblings, Maurice Johnson, Arnold Johnson, Pat Green and Lois Poe. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
