He was predeceased by: his wife Ethel Benson Reed; and his children, Donna Jo Reed and Dale Claborn Reed. He is survived by: his son William Bruce Reed (Donna Dickson Reed); his daughter-in-law Robin Pepper Reed; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Abernathy, Amanda Reed, Cheryl Clark, Clay Reed and Ashley Beaty. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Berryhill Funeral Home & Crematory (2305 Memorial Pkwy NW, Huntsville, AL 35810). A graveside service was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 at 2:30 PM at the Huntsville Memory Gardens (6810 University Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35806).
