He was predeceased by: his wife Gwendolyn Hester; his daughter Catherine Reid; and his grandson Tommy Reid. He is survived by: his children, Theresa Watts (Frankie), Tracy Johnston and Heath Hester (Tasha); his grandchildren, Ashley McDougal (Kyle), Adam Johnston (Carrie), Jessica Hill (Adam), Amy Hicks (Justin) and Raeleigh Hester; and his great grandchildren, Kaleb, Asher, Conor, Mika and Mikayla. He is also survived by three brothers; one sister.
