He was predeceased by: his parents, Winnie Groggin and Paul Groggin; his son James Vernon Knight, Jr.; his sisters, Virginia Hayes and Carol Tanny; his grandson Terry Matlock, Jr.; and his great grandchild Brian Story.
He is survived by: his wife Izell Knight; his children, Louis Patterson (Janice), David Patterson (Ronda), Sherry Ross (Alan), Debra Matlock (Terry) and Pam Dobbins; and his sister Pauline Younks. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
