He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Albert and Margery Hogg Clopton; his wife Susan; his children, John A. Clopton III (Kelley) and Elizabeth Ann Clopton; his grandchildren, Jesse Elizabeth Clopton and Jacob Bryant Martin (Sally); his sisters, Millou Callahan (Don) and Ann Pierce (Bobby); and his nieces, Jessica and Mary Jane Hathaway.
