He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward and Marie McGehee; and his sister Betty McDonald. He is survived by: his wife Lillian McGehee; his children, James Ray McGehee Jr., Marvin Nicholas McGehee (Margie), Timothy Micheal McGehee (Amanda), Heather Kay McGehee (Tonia) and Kathy Gunter (Tim); and his sisters, Dianne Sutton (Larry) and Lisa Hilyer (Mike). He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 3 nephews.
