He was predeceased by: his parents, Colonel Manco and Ezzie Dora Etta Hughes; his siblings, Bernice Hughes, Helen Robinson, Cyril Hughes, Ray Hughes and Jarrell Hughes; his son-in-law Sammy Freeman; and also Lois Newman.
He is survived by: his wife Sybile Vise Hughes; his daughters, Brenda Elaine Freeman of Heflin and Nina Lee Pike (Tommy) of Henagar; and his grandchildren, Kaley Freeman Oliver (Chris) of Spring, Brandon Hughes Freeman (Laurie) of Oxford and Taylor Edward Pike (Kaylee) of Louisville. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren who knew him as Baba: Carson Freeman, Blakely Freeman, Reagan Oliver, and Mikayla Oliver; and several nieces and nephews.
