He was predeceased by: his father Wilton Avery; his former wife Betty Sue Ryles Hughes; and his brothers, Jesse Lawrence Hughes and Jerry Mack Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Marsha Jane Spann Hughes; his son Michael Allen Hughes (Katie); his brothers, Henry Franklin Hughes and David Jacklin "Jack" Hughes (Martha); his mother-in-law Betty Sue Bottoms; and his sisters-in-law, Lisa Spann Ellenburg and Betty Wombles Hughes. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
