He was predeceased by: his parents, Porter Clarence and Virginia Lucille Rascoe Smith; his brothers, Porter Lavone Holmes and Jerry Lamar Holmes; and his sisters-in-law, Sue Holmes and Jenny Holmes.

He is survived by: his son Mark Stephens (Katrina); his brothers, Larry Wayne Holmes (Donna) and Roger Dale Holmes (Terri); his grandchildren, John Mark Stephens, Annabelle Stephens and Elizabeth Standifer; and his close friend Ashley Nerkry Mills. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
