He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Gaines and Nellie Gaines; and his brothers, Les Gaines, Ron McGlennon and Richard McGlennon.
He is survived by: his wife Nelda Cagle Gaines; his children, James Hicks (Irene), Denice Harper (Ron) and Tonya Alexander; his siblings, Vic "Don" Carruth and Kay Halmagyi; his grandchildren, Bryan Hacker (Elizabeth), Derrick Hicks (April), Shavonna Baldwin (Corey), Meagan Hicks, Jordan Harper (Tara), Kylie Harper, Josh Cagle Taylor (Raelynn) and Noah Osborn; and his great grandchildren, Raiden Hicks, Reighlon Baldwin, Kynliegh Harper, Hailey Cagle, Jayden Cagle and Gracie Hacker.
