He was predeceased by: his parents, Mose Atkins and Ruth Beatty Atkins; his daughter Judy Vanderbeck; his siblings, Nancy Sanders, Margie Atkins, Louise Kimbrell and Aaron Atkins; and his half-brother Jerry Atkins.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Atkins; his daughters, Karen Mitchell (Bruce) of Florence, AL and Jewel Moore of Sulligent, AL; his grandchildren, Tania Taylor (Cavan), Jonathan Edwards (Crissy) and Anthony Edwards (Carla); his great grandchildren, Blaise Rumbley (Lauren), C. J. Dean (Madalynn), Jace Edwards, Zane Taylor (Emma) and Brooke Taylor; his great great grandchildren, Katie Rose Dean and Ashton Taylor; and his brothers, Joe Atkins (Debra) of Carbon Hill, AL. and Jack Atkins of Carbon Hill, AL..
