He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcus Pettus and Leotta Pettus; his former wife Ellen Pettus; his siblings, Samuel, Blanche, Hazel, Betty and Joyce; and his stepchildren, Becky and Kenneth.

He is survived by: his wife Katherine Pettus; and his daughters, Martha Brightwell (Huey) and Kathy Owen (Robert). He is also survived by 10 step-grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in his memory.
