He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert "Irby" Irving Taylor and Mary Alice McCall of Minter, Alabama.; his wife Janelle Strickland Taylor; and his siblings, Edward Jones, Lamar Taylor and Fannie Taylor (Whitman).
He is survived by: his children, Angela Taylor Golson (Sam), Deborah Taylor Till (Ken), Lisa Taylor, Karen Taylor (Jeff Jones), Johnny Lamar Taylor and Robert Earl Taylor, Jr. (Christy); and his sister Fay Taylor (Smith). He is also survived by twenty grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren.
