He was predeceased by: his son Lewis Joshua Lawson IV; and his sister Amy Seay Lawson. He is survived by: his wife Mary Quitman Coleman Lawson; his grandchildren, Mary Coleman Chandler, Elizabeth Moore Holmes, Lewis Lawson Holmes, Caroline Reid Cooper, Margaret Lewis Cooper and Lewis Coleman Cooper; and also, Mary Quitman Lawson Holmes (William) and Amy Seay Lawson Cooper (Rhett).
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hospice of West Alabama, Greensboro Opera House, or Lewis J. Lawson Scholarship Fund.
