He was predeceased by: his parents, Hosie B. Parker and Isabelle Hennig Parker; his son Joseph K. Parker, Jr.; and his brothers, Hosie Parker, Jr., Frank Parker and George Parker.

He is survived by: his children, Natalie J. Parker and Scott Parker (Carla); his siblings, Rebecca Lane and Ernest Parker (Laura); and his grandchildren, Danny Ferrill, Starlin Lanier, Dakota C. Rosamond and Gage Thibodaux. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
