He was predeceased by: the mother of his children Sara Fulton Mathis; and his son Gary. He is survived by: his wife Nell Cherry Mathis; his children, Jennifer Mathis and Michael (Gigi); his stepchildren, Bonnie Jordan and Danny Cherry; his daughter-in-law Kathy Forehand Mathis; and his siblings, Vealita Paulk, Ronald, Joe and Clifford. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
