He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Mabell Causey Russell and Walter Frank Russell; his parents, Walter Frank Russell Jr. and Dorothy Francis Russell; and his sisters, Darlene Russell Kilgore and Lenna Russell.

He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Russell; his children, Rebecca Reynolds (David) and Michael Shane Russell Jr. (Amanda); his siblings, Jeanette Champion (Ricky), David Russell and Walter Russell (Jeannie Shaddix); his grandchildren, Shayla Kreh (Brody), Rachel Lambert (Nathaniel), Katelyn Wirtzfeld (Thomas), Taylor Reynolds, Ricky Kreh, Luke Reynolds, Christopher Kreh, Miley Reynolds, Matthew Russell, Jacob Russell and Brayden Russell; and his great grandchildren, Indie Lambert, Myles Wirtzfeld, Ava Wirtzfeld and Tylee Wirtzfeld. He is also survived by Several nieces and nephews.
