He was predeceased by: his parents, William Chalmas Johnson and Willie Pearl Wadsworth Johnson; and his siblings, Mildred Cole, Gladys Christian, Iva Sue Cleere, W. C. Johnson and Royce Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Theresa Lyons Johnson; his sons, Robert Johnson and Ralph Johnson (Deb); his stepson Spencer Thurman; his grandchildren, Meagan Johnson, Nick Johnson (Cori), Jake Johnson (Abbi), Tyler Johnson (Shelby), Colin Thurman and Gavin Thurman; his great grandchild Marshall Johnson; his sisters, Frances Deal, Alice Stroup and Naomi Tolbert; and his sister-in-law Doris Johnson.

The family is accepting flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice or Alabama Baptist Children's Home.
