Payne; his sisters, Joyce Brown of Douglasville and Anne Williams of Dallas; his sister-in-law Doris Hunter; his siblings, Ruth Hunter McTyre, Sarah Garmon, Betty Nellajean Walton, Lawrence Hunter, Rayford Hunter, Roy Hunter and Ernest Hunter; and his parents, James Lester Hunter and Nellie Josephine Austin. He was also cherished by three grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
