He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest C. Cowan and Margaret J. Cowan; and his former wife Linda Cowan. He is survived by: his wife Shari Cowan; his sons, Jeremy Shiver (LeAnn) and Josh Shiver; his grandchildren, Jaxon and Jazyln Shiver; his sister Sheila Bishop (Terry); and his niece Jennifer Wright (Clay).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis organization, 2200 Woodcrest PL #230, Birmingham, AL 35209.
