He was predeceased by: his parents, Lauil Patterson and Agnes Patterson; his siblings, Price Patterson (Kathryn) and Julia Belle Thompson (Gartrell); his former wife Jacqueline Miller Patterson; his wife Delores Dean Patterson; his daughter Patricia Patterson Choate; and his brothers, Lauil Thompson and Larry Fuhrman.

He is survived by: his daughter Leslie McGlaughn (Tony); his grandchildren, Wendy Miller (John), Dana Holland, Lynn Lucas (Terry) and Ryan McGlaughn (Jamie); his great grandchildren, Justin Murphree (Kayla), Dalton Murphree, Logan Murphree (Ari), Bradley Holland, Julie Holland, Graham Brady (Marlee), Mason McGlaughn (Chloe), Anna Brady (Mason) and Tucker McGlaughn (Rylie); his great great grandchildren, Abel Benjamin Murphree and Jonah Murphree; and his close friends, Andy, Betty Hamil, Jerry, Diane Davis, Tom, Carol Patterson, Sonny, Sharon Paul, Bob, Lois Owens, Virginia Boswell, Derrell, Beth Shelton, Tim, Nelda Choate, Willie, Inez West, Rebecca Dellinger, Cathy Milner Calhoun, Priscilla Smith, Donna McCartney, Wayne, Karon Fortenberry and Mayor Joe Taylor. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donation be made to the Whorton Bend Fire Department, Operation Christmas Child, or to the Etowah County Humane Society.
