It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mary Bates of Gadsden, Alabama, who passed away on September 9, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

She was predeceased by: her husband Dallas Harold Bates; her son Harold David Bates; and her brother Charles Evans. She is survived by: her daughter Treba Dobbs (Rick); her grandchildren, Jamie Hicks (Kyle) of Kevin Cameron, G. Q, Hardwick (Brittany), Scott Bates, Brian Bates, Adrianne Williams (Donnie) and Clay Dobbs (Windy); and her brother Harold Evans. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

“Lou was another one of many “Moms” of the infamous “Curtiston” Alabama. She was famous for her “Spaghetti Dinners she could whip up so fast and for so many of us that just descended into her tiny kitchen. She always had a smile so big on her face no matter what we brought to her as crazy impulsive kidos. She would just giggle and we instantly felt better.
