He was predeceased by: his parents, David L. "Bud" Gates and Shelby Jean Smith Gates; his grandson Jacob Hunter Ready; and his siblings, Deborah Anderson and Joey Gates.
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Cumlander (Jay Bright), Tara Ready (Todd), Brandon Gates (Melissa), Kortney Gates, Joey Barnes and Jonathan Barnes; and his brother Bruce Gates. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and numerous other relatives and friends.
