He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Sylvester McNiel and Annie Weston McNiel; and his siblings, Ronald McNiel, Beatrice Williams, Bernice Owens and Blanche Haley.

He is survived by: his wife Marzola T. McNiel; his daughter Kristi McNiel Crumpton; and his grandsons, Wes Crumpton and Garrison Crumpton.
