He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Russell "Dirteye" Heard and Mildred Burgess Heard. He is survived by: his children, Tonya Heard Andrews (James) and Jason Heard (Clarissa Thacker); his sister Anita Heard Mitchell; and his grandsons, Alex Kilgro and Brady Waters.
