He was predeceased by: his parents, Destie Chavis and Wesley Chavis; his wife Lela Thomas Chavis; his grandson Wesley D. Chavis; and his siblings, Lenora May, Walker, James and Melvin.
He is survived by: his children, Carolyn Crawford (Charles), Sheliah Enderson (Michael), Kenneth Chavis and Richard Chavis (Cathy); and his grandchildren, Stephen Waggoner (Christine), Kim Hardwick (Derick), Chrissy Scoggins (Mike), Ashley Chavis (Devin) and Courtney Mea (George). He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
