He was predeceased by: his father J. C. "Buck" Atkins; his brother Gerald "Mike" Atkins; his sister-in-law Rhonda Morgan Atkins; and his niece Kristie Michelle Nunnally. He is survived by: his mother Mildred Ruth Atkins; his wife Peggy Lee Atkins; his children, James Atkins (Lori), Paige Atkins Brown (Jay Amos), Holly Isbell Moman and Heather Haynie (Todd); his grandchildren, Jake, Nate Atkins, Ava Harrington, Baylor Langdale, Cole Moman, Brady Moman and Luke Haynie of Southside, AL; his siblings, Jack Atkins (Glenda) and Sondra Nunnally (Larry); his brother-in-law Fred Abel (Alice); and his nieces and nephews, Kevin Nunnally (Marianne), Jarron Atkins, Brandi (Scott), Benefield (Ider), Amy Stephens (Mississippi) and Christian Atkins (Arizona).
